In a Practice Period (I HAVE PRACTICED FOR MORE THAN 2 DECADES IN RETREAT FOR 2-3 MO. PER YEAR) and other formal meals at Green Gulch Zen Center ... this is the style of eating...3 bowls or Oryoki (Soto Zen)

Oryoki

Introduction

Oryoki–"just enough"– synchronises body and mind through bringing mindfulness to how we eat. Oryoki-style eating , in the prescribed manner and sequence we use, follows a tradition that began in Zen Buddhist monasteries and helps  promote synchronicity of mind and body.
One bowl rice, one miso, one pickle.
A meticulous style of eating that is slow and meditative.
